New Tech is for everyone, especially people who find technology tiring or confusing. We want every page to be easy to read, easy to see and easy to use. We aim to follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. We are still working on it, and some pages, especially games, may not meet every part yet.

Bigger text

Use the Text size buttons at the top of every page (on a phone, they are inside the Menu). Pick the larger A for large or extra large text. We remember your choice on this device. Your browser zoom (Ctrl and +, or pinch on a phone) works too.

Clear, high-contrast colours

The whole site uses a deep navy background with gold and light text, chosen so words stand out clearly. We avoid putting important information in colour alone.

Using a keyboard

You can move through pages with the Tab key and press Enter or Space to use buttons and links. Every page starts with a Skip to main content link, and the item you are on is shown with a clear outline. Many games can be played with the arrow keys.

Less movement

If your device is set to reduce motion, we turn off most moving effects for you. You can also use the Pause animations link at the bottom of every page to stop decorative movement at any time. We remember that choice too.

Screen readers

Pictures that carry meaning have text descriptions (alt text) so screen readers can describe them, and purely decorative pictures are hidden from screen readers. Headings, labels and landmarks are set up so you can find your way around.

Tell us what gets in your way

If anything on New Tech is hard to read, see, hear or use, we really want to know. Please tell us on our Contact page. Let us know which page you were on and what happened, and a real person will reply and help you another way in the meantime.
